CANS

Achieve Escambia's Collective Action Networks (CAN)

Collective Action Networks

In 2016, Achieve Escambia and its partners identified four goals that all participants agreed would bring lasting change in education and workforce readiness outcomes in our community.

Each goal has a community-led Collective Action Network that will drive the implementation of project plans framed around continuous improvement.

The four goals are:

Kindergarten Readiness (CAN launched November 2016)

Academic Success (CAN to launch in 2019 or 2020)

Graduation Rate (CAN to launch in 2019 or 2020)

Career Readiness (CAN launched November 2017)

Definition:

Groups of appropriate cross-sector practicioners and individuals who organize around a community-level outcome. They use the continuous improvement process to develop a charter and an action plan with strategies to improve outcomes.

The Process:

1. Verify Outcomes & Indicators

2. Map moving trains

3. Identify partner outcomes

4. Prioritize contributing indicators

5. Indentify bright spots/opportunities

6. Align Resources & action; SCALE!

7. Continually improve

Steps within the Process:

As the CAN work progresses, individual indicators may require a more in-depth approach to ensure the overall CAN's success.  As a result, Indicator Task Forces (ITF) may be set up to address the needs that arise.  The ITF's are a crucial part in our continuous change process and are community-driven. Many of our partners invest additional time and resources to take part in this segment of the work.

Work Group Organization and Leadership

The work groups function as sub-teams within each Collective Action Network; organized around each prioritized contributing indicator on the Achieve Escambia cradle-to-career roadmap.

Body of Work:

Asset map existing work/efforts

Determine who else needs to be included in ITF

Review the data; disaggregate by geography, race, gender, etc.

Identify inequities

Identify What Additional Information is Needed

Determine strategy or strategies

Explore bright spots from here and elsewhere

Identify existing baseline metric(s) – Set goal(s)

Target cohort vs. population-wide goals

Build out Action Plan(s) for each Strategy

Present the Action Plan to Operational Support Team & Leadership Council to solicit additional buy-in, organizational commitment, and access to resources– refine as needed

Lead implementation of Action Plan

Monitor and refine the Action Plan
